Profile

Dr Simon Turner joined the School of Management from the University of Manchester, where he was Senior Lecturer in Health Policy and Organisation (2017-2019). At Manchester, he developed a new distance learning course on the Masters in Public Health and lectured on the undergraduate medical programme. He has over 12 years’ post-doctoral research experience, having held research positions at University College London (2012-2017), King´s College London (2010-2012), London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine (2008-2010), and University of Cambridge (2007-2008). He holds a PhD in economic geography from the University of Durham (2006) and undergraduate and masters degrees in human geography from the University of Birmingham. He is currently Associate Editor, BMC Health Services Research, honorary Research Associate, Centre for Business Research, University of Cambridge, and Fellow of the UK Higher Education Academy.

Research interests 

Simon's research interests lie in applying social science theory and methods (particularly ethnography) to the study of organisational and innovation processes in health care and wider public management. His research has been published in leading international journals including social Science & Medicine, Public administration, Sociology of Health and illness, Socio-Economic Review, Implementation Science, British Medical Journal, and Journal of Economic Geography. He recently led a national
study on using evidence for innovation funded by The Health Foundation (UK). The study´s final report, and decision-making guidance aimed at health care practitioners, is available here.
